มาตรา 688

• เมื่อเจ้าหนี้ทวงให้ผู้ค้ำประกันชำระหนี้ ผู้ค้ำประกันจะขอให้เรียกลูกหนี้ชำระก่อนก็ได้ เว้นแต่ลูกหนี้จะถูกศาลพิพากษาให้เปนคนล้มละลายเสียแล้ว ฤๅไม่ปรากฏว่าลูกหนี้ไปอยู่แห่งใดในพระราชอาณาเขต

• When the creditor demands performance of the obligation from the surety, the latter may require that the debtor be first called upon to perform unless the debtor has been adjudged bankrupt, or his whereabouts in Siam is unknown.
