มาตรา 196
- ถ้าหนี้เงินได้แสดงไว้เป็นเงินต่างประเทศ ท่านว่าจะส่งใช้เป็นเงินไทยก็ได้
- การเปลี่ยนเงินนี้ ให้คิดตามอัตราแลกเปลี่ยนเงิน ณ สถานที่และในเวลาที่ใช้เงิน

- [I] If a money debt is expressed in a foreign currency, payment may be made in Siamese currency.
- [II] The commutation is made according to the rate of exchange current in the place of payment at the time of payment.

The most plausible model for this section would be:
- German Civil Code (1896), Sec.244:
- [I] If a money debt expressed in a foreign currency is payable within the Empire, payment may be made in the currency of the Empire, unless payment in the foreign currency is expressly stipulated for.
- [II] The commutation is made according to the rate of exchange ‚current in the place of payment (d) at the time of payment.
